Helping 1stGen American College Students Secure Paid Government Internships w/ Only a Handful of Applications 🎯 | Former Hilltern 🏛️ | Legal Analyst @ Department of Justice ⚖️

The biggest misconception I hear from students is that internships in Washington D.C. are unattainable. (Bonus tip at the end).Let’s break it down, what if you: 1. Focus on extracurriculars that stand out: Model UN, Mock Trial, SGA.2. Attend career fairs & networking events relating to federal jobs, think tanks, and other related organizations found on the Capital.3. Maintain a high GPA (above 3.5).All these factors are in your control. Maximizing these components ensure:1. Your resume stands out to recruiters.2. You build the connections that will propel you to those top internships.3. Your GPA consistently meets the requirement, showcasing strong work ethic. Had I limited myself, I wouldn’t have been able to intern in my dream internship: Congress.Bonus: If you add targeted networking to each application, it’s only a matter of time before you get an offer.Repost if you too have seen the fruit of not limiting yourself ♻️

Vice President / Division Manager | Transforming South & Central Texas with Innovative Construction Solutions for Exciting Projects
- Report this post
Intern Signing Day Recap: We have spent this week welcoming our Summer 2024 Interns for the Yates Central & South Texas Division! Our Internship is truly one of a kind and is very competitive. Between last September and March, we attended 9 Career Fairs, met hundreds of students, conducted 3 Intern Hiring events, interviewed 35 students, and offered 14 internships. All of that led up to a very exciting and much anticipated “signing day” on Monday! Nothing easy is worth having and these students are ready to put in the work! This summer all 14 Interns will be closely mentored and given the opportunity to learn construction on our mega projects. Having this type of experience is not easily obtained and will take them very far in their careers. Being able to lead and build relationships over the next 10 weeks with each of these individuals is a true honor for me! We have a full summer planned for them where they will be on a rotation schedule to gain hands on experience in the top 3 roles they are most interested in pursuing upon completion of school. Reflecting on your own internship experiences, how did you demonstrate why you were selected? What insight and advice would you give to these 14 talented individuals? 🌟🚧🏗 #yatesbuilds #summerinternship #construction #constructionleadership

On the latest episode of the#ManagingTheFutureOfWork podcast, Parker Dewey Founder and CEO Jeffrey Moss joins Joseph Fuller to explain the micro internship.Colleges are under increasing pressure to help students launch careers. But there’sa disconnect between coursework and work. And campus job fairs and web searchesaren’tenough to give students a meaningfulunderstandingof a given line of work or employer. Meanwhile, employers are looking for relevant experience, even for entry-level positions. Given the limited availability of summer internships and work experience in a student’s field of choice, there’sa need for quickerengagements. One approach is the micro internship —essentially aprofessional gig project.Parker Dewey,an innovator in this space, connects college students and recent gradswith potential employers, who stand to expand their knowledge-work capacityalong with their talent pipelines.
